Retraction
Posted by Amanda under Real Estate Goddess, The 312, What did we do without the Internet | Tags: Roger's Park, Trixie, ACT, Ivy League, state school, blog |Several readers have pointed out that none of the addresses in my previous post are actually in Roger’s Park. And then Bench himself told me I’m too much of a dumb Trixie for his ‘hood.
Ouch! I stand corrected! Reading comprehension has never been my strong suit. I got perfect scores on the English and math sections of the ACT, but it was the reading comprehension that knocked me out of the Ivy League running. And then the science section, well, that’s why I went to a state school. Hah!
Also this: Since when does anyone but Ben and Abbie read my blog? My own mother doesn’t even read this!

A little first hand experience about Roger’s Park. My then-boyfriend of 4 years lived there (when he dropped out of Michigan to live near me, dumbass), and I stayed at his apartment many nights. It was on Eastlake Terrace right by the water, and though this was 9 years ago, it felt pretty safe. It’s right underneath the el stop near there that was a bit sketchy… but there are always sketchy streets here and there!

That dude is an ass! It’s funny that he has nothing better to do than to write an entire blog criticizing someone he doesn’t even know. He must be a real keeper.

Um, someone blogged about you. That is kind of awesome.
And if he doesn’t want you moving to his neighborhood, he certainly wouldn’t want me. I don’t even go to Brooklyn anymore. I can barely be convinced to go downtown. Someday I am going to be one of those old Jewish ladies who refuses to go below 59th street.

Of course someone reads your blog–we never miss a word. I am glad we don’t have to look at those birds any longer. Worse than the flock at my bedroom window every spring morning. “Every year, back comes spring, with nasty little birds yapping their fool heads off and the ground all mucked up with plants.” Dorothy Parker. Amanda,
I was not trying to be mean, just sarcastic. You sound like a nice lady and would probably only improve the neighborhood if you moved in. RP is improving, by the way. As for Abbie’s rude remark, I did not “write an entire blog criticizing someone he doesn’t even know.” I wrote a single post doing that. Furthermore, YOU wrote an entire post about a neighborhood you know nothing about in a city that you obviously no very little about. But that’s cool. No hard feelings. Keep in touch, I like your writing and your blog is very witty and fun to read. Kind regards to you and yours!

We should put this whole thing in perspective. Tom wants a totally crime-free Rogers Park, but he is not the only one Towards that effort, he and others want our Alderman to pay attention. This is a lofty goal.
He also wants our 49th Ward Alderman to be replaced. He, among others, reasonably fear that Joseph Moore will be appointed to become our next Congressman. Many of us are genuinely concerned that Alderman Moore, at one point, has not put enough of his efforts toward helping our Ward.
Instead, he has traveled outside of the area. Moore has focused on banning Foie Gras, so that some of us travel to Winnetka, instead. More never focused upon sound animal research on the foie gras issue. He supports a good goose dinne as long as the liver is not prepared in a manner that even the Jewish faith considers Kosher.
Moore’s last two elections had an advertising base that focused in the Iraq War. Mind you, he is not a Congressman, yet! What does the Iraq War have to do with City Services? Many of us are clueless.
I will back Suffredin over Moore. Don Gordon ran against Moore and many of us who appreciate Don’s efforts over the years regret his loss. Some of us are bitter; I’m not and am willing to approach and work with Moore for the sake of our community.
Nevertheless, I admit that Moore’s staff was recently attentive for us. A staffer immediately came to our alley when it heard that Commonwealth Edison chose not to announce that it was digging a hole to replace electric poles. The effort was appreciated; my neighbor and I have the pole where we want it for the next twenty to fifty years.
Many of us neglect to walk the beat during positive loitering. This is a means to lower crime in our area and it is working. Last Friday evening was an example in point. Bernard Garbo and others are making signficant efforts.
Some of us are not as tolerant as others. There are quite a few things to look into in Rogers. I regret that I cannot post some photos on your blog, as easily. Having the Purple line and a major transportation hub close by (Howard Terminal) means that trips to O’Hare, Midway, Wilmette and other suburbs are logistically easy without a car or using much gas.
I have found the Howard Terminal to be safe after using it for the last ten years, but cannot speak for every single person who passes through that large facility. I regret the facility was not significantly improved until the last five years. Likewise, I am sure that some at O’Hare Airport would report such challenges, as well.
